Pelvic Plastic Surgery
Pelvic plastic surgery is a specialty that addresses the needs of women who have suffered damage to their pelvic floor muscles or structures. Physicians in this field—urogynecologists—utilize a combination of traditional surgical techniques and minimally-invasive techniques to repair the damaged tissues and restore the patients’ ability to perform normal daily activities.골반필러시술
The types of procedures performed by pelvic plastic surgeons vary widely, as many women suffer from a variety of conditions that affect the pelvic area. These include prolapsed organs (bladder, uterus or the bladder) and spinal cord injuries. They also treat urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence and the after-effects of cancer treatment or trauma.
A few of the more common surgeries include rectocele repair, sacrospinous ligament suspension and sacrocolpopexy. During these procedures, the surgeon tightens or repairs the affected tissue using stitches that either dissolve or are replaced with scar tissue. Depending on the type of procedure, patients may undergo general or regional (spine) anesthesia, which allows them to return home quickly.
Rectocele repair involves repairing the stretched or torn wall between the rectum and vagina, which eliminates a bulge. In this case, the surgeon uses sutures that dissolve and may use a mesh to support the muscle tissue. Sacrospinous ligament suspension shortens the overstretched uterosacral ligament, which normally serves as the main support for the uterus, bladder and vagina. It can be done through the vagina or laparoscopically. During sacrocolpopexy, the surgeon suspends the top of the vagina and urethra using the sacral ligament or a mesh bridge to prevent prolapse.
Other procedures that are used to treat prolapsed organs include colporrhaphy, a surgery that fixes tears in the anterior and posterior walls of the vagina. This strengthens the vagina and allows it to support the rectum and bladder. Hysteropexy, a surgery that re-suspends a dropped uterus or cervix, can be performed through the vagina or the abdomen. It typically involves a mesh bridge or graft to lift the uterus in place.
For those who suffer from urinary incontinence, physicians may suggest treatments such as botulinum toxin injections for overactive bladder or urethral bulking agents that improve bladder control. They may also recommend sacral neuromodulation, a nonsurgical treatment that involves placing a device below the skin in the lower spine and stimulating the nerves with an electric impulse to reduce bladder spasms.
In addition to restoring the function of the pelvic floor, these procedures can help individuals develop a more harmonious relationship with their bodies. Patients who have undergone these procedures report heightened sexual satisfaction with their partners as well as greater physical comfort. This translates into better mobility and reduced chafing from clothing, which often results in less pain for the woman and her partner. As a complement to pelvic plastic surgery, doctors usually recommend pelvic floor muscle rehabilitation (Incontinence Therapy) to assist in achieving optimal outcomes.닥터케빈의원
